Chuanyi Ji is an Associate Professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology, affiliated with ML@GT and the Strategic Energy Institute. She holds a B.S. (Honors) from Tsinghua University, an M.S. from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Ph.D. from Caltech. Her research focuses on large-scale data analytics, resilience modeling for energy networks, and quantifying socioeconomic vulnerability in infrastructure systems. She has pioneered methodologies for analyzing operational energy grids, severe weather impacts, and community resilience.
- Education:
- B.S. (Honors), Electronics Department, Tsinghua University (1983)
- M.S., Electrical Engineering, University of Pennsylvania (1986)
- Ph.D., Electrical Engineering, California Institute of Technology (1992)
Her work integrates machine learning and network science to address challenges in energy resilience, climate risk, and equitable infrastructure recovery. Notable contributions include satellite-based assessments of Puerto Rico’s post-Hurricane Maria power restoration and stochastic models for grid resilience under climate threats. Awards include recognition from Nature Energy (2021) and the NSF Career Award (1995).
Her publications span resilience quantification, fault management, and energy systems analysis, with a focus on real-world applications and methodological innovation.
