Christy Wampole is an Associate Professor of French and Italian at Princeton University and Director of the Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program in the Humanities (2021–2024). She holds a Ph.D. in French and Italian from Stanford University (2011). Her research focuses on 19th- to 21st-century French, Francophone, and Italian literature, particularly novels and essays, with emphases on feminism, ecology, and media. She examines intersections of philosophy and literature, addressing topics like botany metaphors, masculinity, drones, and gender issues in France and the U.S.
Teaching courses span language, literature, and cultural studies, including 'Feminist Thought in 20th-Century French Literature and Art' and 'Race in France.' She has published extensively in journals like MLN and Yale French Studies, and authored books such as Rootedness: The Ramifications of a Metaphor (2016) and The Other Serious (2015). Her work blends critical theory with contemporary cultural analysis, exploring themes like irony, media, and ecological thought.
