Christos Boutopoulos is a Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Pharmacology & Physiology at the University of Montreal's Faculty of Medicine. He leads the Laser Applications Research Unit at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital and holds adjunct roles in Biomedical Engineering. His research focuses on biomedical lasers, nanomaterials, advanced bio-imaging, and single-cell surgery. He has authored/co-authored 25 peer-reviewed publications and secured multiple grants from agencies like CRSNG and FRQS.
- Education: PhD in Physics (2011), Postdoc in Biomedical Engineering (2014) from Polytechnique d’Athènes and École Polytechnique de Montréal.
- Awards: Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship (2014), FRQS Junior I & II Awards (2018–2022).
Research interests include laser-bioprinting for corneal regeneration, photothermal therapy, and OCT-guided surgical tools. Current grants fund projects on bioprinting inflammation-suppressing bioinks and nanophotonics for nociceptor silencing. Supervised 4 PhD/Master’s students in biomaterials and laser applications.
