Christopher Wood is a Professor in the Department of German at New York University (since 2014), previously holding positions at Yale University as Full Professor (2000–2014), Carnegie Professor (2013–2014), and earlier roles as Assistant and Associate Professor in the History of Art department. His research focuses on the history of European art (1300–1900), historiography of art history, German literature and culture, and critical theory.
Education: A.B. magna cum laude in History and Literature from Harvard College (1983), Ph.D. in Fine Arts from Harvard University (1991, dissertation on Albrecht Altdorfer), and an Honorary Master of Arts Privatim from Yale University (2000).
Notable awards include the Jacob-Burckhardt-Preis (2018), membership in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2016), and a Guggenheim Fellowship (2002). He has held visiting roles at institutions such as the University of California, Berkeley, Hebrew University, and Villa I Tatti.
