Dr. Christopher Wilburn is an Associate Clinical Professor in the School of Kinesiology within the College of Education at Auburn University. He serves as the Graduate Advisor of Exercise Science (Biomechanics) and Assistant Director of the Sport Biomechanics Laboratory.
His educational background:
- Bachelor of Kinesiology, Sport Studies, and Physical Education from Morehouse College, Atlanta, Georgia
Dr. Wilburn's research focuses on biomechanics, particularly in the areas of gait analysis and the effects of footwear, socks, and foot architecture on lower extremity mechanics. His primary research investigates how these factors influence movement patterns and has implications for sports performance and injury prevention.
He is actively involved in mentoring as the Graduate Advisor for Exercise Science. Additionally, he is a major advocate for social justice and diversity. His roles include:
- Academic liaison between Auburn University and their Historically Black Colleges and Universities partners
- Member of the American Society of Biomechanics Diversity Committee
- Member and outreach co-leader for the Black Biomechanists Association
- Member and social media team member for the Latinx in Biomechanics Group
- Ally to the International Women in Biomechanics Group
He is the Assistant Director of the Sport Biomechanics Laboratory.
