Christopher Whyte is a tenured Associate Professor in the Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness program at Virginia Commonwealth University's L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from George Mason University, an M.A. in Political Science from the same institution, and dual B.A. degrees in International Relations and Economics from the College of William & Mary.
His research focuses on three interconnected domains: the socio-cognitive dynamics of cyber operations, Internet-enabled political warfare and coordinated social subversion, and the impact of artificial intelligence on security landscapes. Whyte's work critically examines how digital technologies transform conflict paradigms and institutional responses to emerging threats.
Publication analysis reveals sustained focus on cyber conflict innovation, with recent works exploring AI's role in security frameworks, influence operation tactics, and terrorist adaptation to emerging technologies. Methodologically, his scholarship combines policy analysis with empirical examination of cyber incidents.
Whyte maintains active engagement with security institutions, having held fellowships at Pacific Forum CSIS and George Mason's Center for Security Policy Studies. He contributes analytical commentary to multiple think tanks including Cato Institute and Center for a New American Security, while supporting cybersecurity curriculum development at several universities.
