Christopher Walter

Christopher Walter, PT, DPT, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Health Professions, based at the UAMS Northwest Regional Campus. His research focuses on physical activity’s role in preventing chronic diseases, motor recovery in neurological deficits, and addressing health disparities in minority populations. He leads or co-leads several funded projects, including interventions targeting older adults with arthritis and Marshallese adults with Type 2 diabetes. His work integrates behavioral motor learning paradigms and culturally adapted strategies to improve health outcomes.

Dr. Walter has published 16 peer-reviewed articles and presented 22 conference abstracts. He received recognition from UAMS for his contributions to research and teaching. His research spans motor learning mechanisms in aging populations, the impact of socioeconomic factors on physical activity during pandemics, and interdisciplinary approaches to health equity. He collaborates with teams studying racial disparities in physical activity and neurological rehabilitation techniques for Parkinson’s disease and spinal cord injuries.
