Christopher W. Pfund is an Associate Professor of Music at the University of Florida and Voice Area Coordinator. He previously held the same rank at the University of Idaho and taught at Hartwick and Manhattanville Colleges. His expertise spans vocal performance, opera, and oratorio, with a focus on Baroque and contemporary repertoire.
Education: He earned degrees from the University of Northern Colorado, Manhattan School of Music, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from The City University of New York Graduate Center (2019). His dissertation, published by ProQuest, focuses on 17th-century music and performance practice.
Research interests include early 17th-century song, performance practice, and historic German diction. Notable performances include over 150 portrayals of the roasting swan in Carmina Burana, roles in operas like Merry Mount and Georgia Bottoms, and collaborations with orchestras such as the Cleveland Orchestra and Santa Fe Opera.
Awards: Recipient of the Richard F. Gold Career Grant from the Shoshana Foundation. Recordings include works by Britten, Amy Beach, and William Mayer.
Teaching and Professional Activities: Coordinates the voice program at the University of Florida, teaches voice, and has been a 20th-Century song recitalist at the Banff Centre in Canada.
