Christopher Slobogin

Christopher Slobogin is the Director of the Criminal Justice Program at Vanderbilt Law School with a secondary professorial appointment in Vanderbilt School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry. A top-five most-cited criminal law scholar nationally, he specializes in the intersection of mental health law and criminal procedure.

His research examines:

• Constitutional standards in forensic evaluations
• Competency to stand trial and plead guilty
• Insanity defense frameworks
• Mental disability in death penalty cases
• Risk assessment methodologies

Professor Slobogin has received dual 2016 honors:

• American Board of Forensic Psychology's Distinguished Contribution Award
• American Psychology-Law Society's Distinguished Contribution Award

He is the only scholar to receive both awards in their histories. His ABA leadership includes chairing task forces that reformed national standards for insanity defenses and death penalty moratorium implementation.
