Christopher Sleet is a Professor of Economics at the University of Rochester's Department of Economics, part of the School of Arts & Sciences. He holds a PhD from Stanford University (1998). His research focuses on Macroeconomics and Public Economics, particularly optimal taxation, fiscal policy design, and dynamic economic modeling. His work often explores long-term tax policy implications, discrete choice frameworks in taxation, and the interplay between technological change and wage inequality.
His recent publications address topics such as recursive optimization methods, revision-proof policy design, and taxation of top incomes. Notably, he has contributed to understanding how governments can design tax systems that account for persistent private information and dynamic decision-making.
His academic contributions span over two decades, with a focus on credible social insurance mechanisms, endogenous debt markets, and politically feasible fiscal policies. His office is located at 202 Harkness Hall, and he maintains an active research website.
