Christopher Mordaunt

Christopher Mordaunt is a Principal Lecturer of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maine, currently based in Room 245 of the Ferland Engineering Education and Design Center. He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University in 2005 and has dedicated his career to advancing combustion research and engineering education.

His research spans four key areas: the sooting propensity of liquid hydrocarbon fuels, biomass combustion, combustion characteristics of coal-based liquid fuels, and combustion instability in land-based gas turbines. Supported by sponsors like NASA, his work focuses on optimizing fuel performance, reducing emissions, and enhancing gas turbine design through surrogate fuel modeling and experimental analysis.

Mordaunt’s publications reflect a multidisciplinary approach intersecting Mechanical Engineering, Combustion Science, and Energy Engineering. His studies address critical challenges in fuel sustainability, including surrogate fuel emulation for jet propellants, CO₂-doped biogas combustion, coal-based fuel dynamics, and high-pressure liquid fuel instability.
