Dr. Christopher Lloyd is a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Westminster, part of the Centre for Psychological Sciences. He holds professional credentials as a Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol), Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (AFBPsS), and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). He is HCPC-registered and actively contributes to academic research, teaching, and clinical practice.
His research focuses on the intersection of religion, spirituality, and mental health, with a particular emphasis on Christian communities. He explores religious mental health stigma, culturally adapted psychotherapies, psychotherapy integration, and novel qualitative methods such as story completion. His methodological expertise includes reflexive thematic analysis, discourse analysis, and interpretative phenomenological analysis.
The trends in his recent publications reveal a consistent focus on how religious beliefs shape perceptions of mental illness, especially within evangelical communities. His work investigates demonic attributions, prayer practices, help-seeking barriers, and the role of spiritual support. He frequently employs qualitative and meta-synthetic approaches to uncover deep-seated narratives and social dynamics.
Dr. Lloyd has received recognition through professional fellowships and editorial roles. He is a Book Review Editor for Pastoral Psychology and reviews for journals including Religion and Health, Frontiers in Psychology, and Religions.
