Christopher Lewis is a pianist and faculty member at Bennington College since Fall 2010, holding the role of Piano Instructor. His career spans teaching and performing across the United States, Italy, and British Columbia. Lewis has performed in prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Weill Hall, and Alice Tully Hall (New York), as well as Orchestra Hall (Detroit) and the Empire State Performing Arts Center (Albany). His recordings are featured on the Newport Classics label.
Education: BA from SUNY Purchase. Prior appointments include faculty roles at New York University and several private schools in New York City. His artistic achievements include prizes from the American National Chopin Competition and the New York Leschetizky Society.
Lewis’s work bridges performance artistry with pedagogy, emphasizing classical repertoire interpretation and music education. His performances often highlight 19th- and 20th-century composers, reflecting his specialization in Romantic-era piano literature.
