Christopher L Kreider serves as an Assistant Professor in the School of Engineering and Computing at Christopher Newport University, where he also directs the Cybersecurity and Information Science Programs. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Information Systems/Cyber Security from Dakota State University (completed February 2024), an MS in Computer Science from Georgia Tech, an MIT from Virginia Tech, and a BS in Information Science from CNU itself. As a military spouse, his academic path involved navigating multiple relocations before returning to his alma mater to teach.
Kreider's research focuses on three primary areas: Information Security (particularly password systems and AR/VR authentication), Online Communities (with extensive Wikipedia research), and Healthcare Information Systems. His work bridges theoretical cybersecurity principles with practical applications, often examining the human factors in security systems. His recent publications demonstrate a strong emphasis on novel authentication methods for emerging technologies, cybersecurity education frameworks, and community dynamics in online platforms.
His publication record shows consistent output in top information systems venues including AMCIS, SAIS, and the Journal of the Southern Association for Information Systems, with a noticeable increase in AR/VR security research since 2021. Kreider's work combines technical security concerns with human-centered design principles, particularly examining how users interact with security systems in immersive environments.
