Christopher Kibler

Christopher Kibler is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Geography at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). He holds a B.S. in Geography and International Affairs from George Washington University (2014), an M.S. in Geography (2019), and a Ph.D. in Geography (2023), all from UCSB. Prior to his academic career, he worked in Washington, D.C., developing water pollution regulations for city government.

His research focuses on water, energy, and carbon fluxes in terrestrial ecosystems, particularly examining how disturbances like wildfires and droughts impact ecosystem structure and function. He employs remote sensing, eddy covariance, and ecological modeling techniques. Notable projects include analyzing groundwater-dependent riparian vegetation responses to drought and investigating bird species adaptation to habitat degradation.

Recent publications emphasize sub-seasonal imaging spectroscopy (SHIFT campaign), proximal sensing applications, and evapotranspiration dynamics in dryland ecosystems. His work bridges high-resolution field data with global ecological patterns, addressing climate change impacts on ecosystems.
