Christopher K. Belous

Christopher K. Belous is an Associate Professor and core faculty member at Purdue University Northwest (PNW). He currently serves as Director of Couple & Family Therapy Graduate Programs and Interim Coordinator of Counselor Education Programs. His roles include overseeing program administration, academic requirements, and clinical training. Belous holds a Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS)/Couple and Family Therapy from Michigan State University, alongside M.A. and B.A. degrees from MSU and Central Michigan University, respectively.

His research focuses on sex positivity, LGBTQ+ identities, clinical supervision, and relationship satisfaction, employing mixed-methods approaches. Notable projects include developing the Sex Positivity Scale and exploring transformative learning in sex therapy education. He collaborates with students and institutions, emphasizing feminist and social justice frameworks in teaching.

Belous is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in multiple states, an AAMFT Approved Supervisor, and certified in Sex Therapy/Education (AASECT) and Family Life Education (NCFR). His credentials reflect expertise in clinical practice, supervision, and LGBTQIA-affirming therapy.

Teaching philosophies emphasize critical thinking, experiential learning, and systemic socio-cultural analysis. He advises students in Couple & Family Therapy programs and mentors through PNW’s COAMFTE-accredited internship initiatives. His work bridges clinical practice, education, and advocacy in marginalized communities.
