Dr. Christopher J. Keane is the Vice President for Research and a Professor of Physics at Washington State University. He holds a B.S. in Physics and Engineering from the University of Rochester (1980) and a Ph.D. in Astrophysics from Princeton University (1986). His research focuses on computational and experimental studies of x-ray lasers, inertial confinement fusion, and ultra-high intensity laser-matter interactions.
Dr. Keane has held leadership roles at the Department of Energy (DOE), including serving as Associate Director of the Office of Inertial Fusion and later directing the National Ignition Facility (NIF) User Office. He rejoined Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) as Assistant Associate Director of Physics and has served in the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). He currently chairs national and international advisory committees on controlled thermonuclear fusion.
Awarded the NNSA Silver Medal and Defense Programs Award of Excellence, he is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and a member of the American Physical Society.
