Christopher J. Catone is an Associate Professor and Department Chair of Mathematics at Albright College, a liberal arts institution in Reading, PA. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a B.S. from The College of New Jersey. Before joining Albright, he taught high school math and physics, followed by a post-doctoral position at the University of Hawaii. His research focuses on Differential Geometry, Geometry, and Mathematical Pedagogy, with current work on an advanced geometry textbook. He has received awards including the MAA George Pólya Award and the Laughlin Distinguished Faculty Award for Teaching. Dr. Catone actively collaborates with students on projects such as Fixed Points of Discrete Functions and Minimal Surfaces. His teaching philosophy emphasizes innovative methods to bridge calculus concepts with discrete mathematics.
He has advised students including Stephen Brittain (2020-21), Sophie Bass (2018-19), Matthew Smith (2013-14), and Danielle Smiley (2008-09). His publications span applied mathematics, motion planning, and geometric theories. Grants and collaborations include work with researchers like R. Smith and M. Chyba. Dr. Catone’s contributions to mathematics education and geometry continue to shape both academic research and pedagogical practices.
