معرفی
Christopher Howk is a Professor in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Notre Dame. His research focuses on the evolution of galactic gas and cosmic element buildup since the Big Bang, examining how galaxies exchange matter with their surroundings through inflows, outflows, and star formation processes.
- B.A., Hanover College (1994)
- Ph.D., University of Wisconsin (1999)
Research interests include:
- Galactic gas evolution and star formation history
- Intergalactic medium metallicity
- Spectroscopic analysis of gas dynamics
- Observational studies using Hubble and Large Binocular Telescope
Recent publications analyze lithium abundance in low-metallicity galaxies, cold accretion flows, ionized halo gas reservoirs, galaxy outflows, and Lyman limit systems. His work combines spectroscopy and imaging to trace gas interactions across cosmic time.
Prof. Howk's group investigates how galaxies sustain star formation and eject metals into intergalactic space, using observations to constrain models of baryon cycling and galaxy evolution.
