Christopher Hammond serves as Professor of Mathematics and Assistant Chair of the Mathematics and Statistics Department at Connecticut College, where he has been a faculty member since 2003. He also acts as Consultant to the Registrar's Office and maintains an active role in departmental leadership.
His educational background includes a B.A. from the University of the South and M.S./Ph.D. degrees from the University of Virginia.
Hammond's research focuses on function-theoretic operator theory, exploring intersections between operator theory and complex analysis. His work examines vector spaces of analytic functions and linear transformations on these spaces, with recent expansion into series convergence tests including Raabe's test and Jamet's test. He maintains a strong interdisciplinary interest in connections between mathematics and the liberal arts, particularly literature and religion, having delivered lectures on mathematical imagery in Dante's Divine Comedy and Gulliver's Travels.
His recent publications reveal a consistent focus on composition-differentiation operators within Hardy spaces and related function spaces, demonstrating both theoretical depth and innovative approaches to operator analysis.

Hammond has taught a comprehensive range of courses including calculus, discrete mathematics, differential equations, linear algebra, real analysis, complex analysis, abstract algebra, and topology. He authored the freely available textbook The Art of Analysis and introduced the interdisciplinary freshman seminar 'Intimations of Infinity' in 2005. His departmental service includes assisting with curriculum development and student advising within the Mathematics and Statistics Department.
Based in Fanning Hall, Hammond participates in the department's weekly seminar series and contributes to the intellectual community through research presentations, most recently at the Northeastern Analysis Meeting in Syracuse.
