Christopher Goatley is a Researcher at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies at James Cook University in Townsville, Australia. He holds a PhD in marine biology from JCU, where he studied the trophic ecomorphology of reef fish assemblages under the supervision of Prof. David Bellwood. Prior to his PhD, he earned a BSc (Honours) in marine biology from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (UK) and worked as a freelance scuba instructor in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt.
His research focuses on understanding coral reef ecosystem dynamics, particularly how human-induced environmental changes affect reef fish communities and their ecological roles. He is affiliated with the ARC Centre’s efforts to advance knowledge on reef resilience and adaptation to climate change.
Christopher’s work contributes to broader initiatives exploring the interplay between coral reef ecosystems and human societies, emphasizing the need for conservation strategies that address both ecological and socio-economic dimensions.
