Christopher Flessner is a Professor & Director of Clinical Training in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Kent State University. His research focuses on pediatric anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and body-focused repetitive behaviors through the Pediatric Anxiety Research Clinic (PARC). He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2008. His work explores risk factors for anxiety-related disorders, intervention development, and the relationship between anxiety and food allergies.
Key research areas include cognitive flexibility, familial influences, and neurocognitive mechanisms in pediatric mental health. Courses taught include Quantitative Statistical Analysis, Child Psychotherapy, and Clinical Practicum Supervision. Recent publications address parenting practices, executive functioning, and food allergy interventions. Dr. Flessner is actively involved in training doctoral students and considers GRE scores in admissions evaluations.
His lab’s initiatives include the Food Allergy Superheroes Training (FAST) program and studies on school policy impacts. Ongoing work examines developmental trajectories of OCD symptoms and the role of social support in mitigating anxiety. Collaborations span behavioral interventions, psychometric scale development, and translational research.
