Christopher Cassidy

Christopher Cassidy is an Associate Professor in the School of Art at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). He holds an MFA from the State University of New York at Albany and a BFA from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. His work explores ecological and social histories through sculpture, digital imaging, video, and interactive installations. Cassidy has exhibited nationally and internationally, including at the Venice Architecture Biennale and the Santa Fe Currents New Media Festival. He has served as Graduate Director, Director of the School of Art, and is currently co-Director of Undergraduate Studies in Art at UNCG.

His research focuses on the intersection of art and technology, emphasizing how perception is mediated by maps, models, and digital tools. Notable projects include Long Fetch II, which translates ocean wave movements into automated blind installations, and Open Spaces, a collaborative video installation tracing the Trail of Tears. Cassidy’s work often involves public commissions, such as permanent installations at the Academy of Natural Sciences and SUNY.

He teaches courses in digital foundations, video art, motion graphics, and interactive sculpting. His creative practice emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, as seen in partnerships with Ruby Wescoat and institutions like Zayed University and the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts.
