Christopher C. Cummins is the Henry Dreyfus Professor of Chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His research group focuses on inorganic synthesis, reaction discovery, and reagent development to explore novel chemical systems. Key areas include the synthesis of reactive main-group species (e.g., P₂, aminophosphinidenes, phosphinidene chalcogenides) and transition-metal-mediated processes for phosphinidene transfer. The group also investigates ligand design for catalysis, polyphosphate synthesis, and phosphorus sustainability through waste-minimal routes. Quantum chemical studies complement experimental work to elucidate bonding and reaction mechanisms.
Research efforts are organized through the Cummins Group, with recent activity highlighted in news updates (e.g., new group members joining in 2024). Administrative support is provided by Thomas Tenzin. The lab maintains an active website for further details on ongoing projects and collaborations.
