Christopher Barnes is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Derby's College of Health, Psychology and Social Care. His research focuses on psychological aspects of human-nature relationships, perinatal mental health, and the development of assessment tools for parental self-efficacy and psychological well-being. He investigates how nature connectedness and compassionate interventions can support mental health across different populations.
Research interests include the development and validation of psychological scales for assessing self-criticism and parental efficacy, nature-based interventions for maternal well-being, and the psychological benefits of environmental engagement. Recent publications demonstrate substantial work in perinatal mental health support, nature connection during life transitions, and the co-design of interventions that integrate psychological support with environmental engagement. His research frequently employs qualitative methodologies to understand lived experiences and develops practical resources for enhancing well-being through connection with nature.
