Christophe Pottier is a Lecturer in Architecture and Archaeology of Cambodia at the French School of the Far East (EFEO), with a career spanning since 1992. His work focuses on the archaeology and architecture of Angkor, integrating remote sensing, field surveys, and excavation projects. He leads the Franco-Khmer Archaeological Mission on the Development of the Angkorian Territory (MAFKATA) and has co-directed research on Jayavarman VII’s hospitals with the University of Sydney and Royal University of Phnom Penh.
- Current roles: Director of Studies at EFEO (since 2018), UNESCO expert, and APSARA advisor.
- Past roles: Head of EFEO Bangkok (2011–2016), Visiting Scholar at the University of Sydney (2010–2011).
His research explores Angkorian territorial organization, monumental chronology, and water management systems. Key projects include lidar mapping of archaeological landscapes, stratigraphic excavations, and interdisciplinary studies linking ceramics to socio-political dynamics. Collaborations span institutions like the University of Sydney, CNRS, and the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Recent publications and presentations emphasize climatic impacts on urban infrastructure, the evolution of temple enclosures, and cross-cultural exchange networks. He has contributed to over 15 peer-reviewed articles, focusing on Angkorian settlement patterns, hydrological systems, and material culture analysis.
