Dr. Christophe Bastien is an Associate Professor in Transport Safety at Coventry University, leading the Transport Safety and Simulation research group. With 27 years of combined industrial and academic experience, he focuses on vehicle safety, trauma modeling, and AI applications in forensic investigations. He leads the PACE-AI project, an AI-driven collision forensics tool, and the SENTINEL initiative for real-time pedestrian triage technology.
Education: MSc, BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, and DUT (Genie Mecanique). His work spans 22 patents, 39 journal articles, and over 253 citations. Research interests include human safety modeling, trauma computation, and connected autonomous vehicle safety.
Notable contributions: Winner of the 2021 Prince Michael International Road Safety Award for post-crash pedestrian triage innovations. Co-developed the Total Human Model for Safety (THUMS) trauma method. Leads collaborations with institutions like University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) and the Air Ambulance Services (TAAS).
Projects include RoaD (Reducing Road Traffic Casualties), TIC-IT (Trusted Intelligent Connected Autonomous Vehicles), and OptiPress (steel fabrication optimization). He teaches crashworthiness modeling and vehicle safety at undergraduate and industry levels.
Key research outputs: Peak Virtual Power (PVP) injury prediction method, AI-based forensic tools, and trauma simulation strategies for the C-TRIP platform.
