Christoph Raetzsch is an Associate Professor of Journalism and Digital Methods and affiliated researcher at the Centre for Digital Transformation in Cities and Communities (DITCOM) at Aarhus University, Denmark. His research focuses on the digital structural transformation of public spheres, media history/theory, and logics of technological systems. He examines processes of public communication at the intersection of social media, digital urban spaces, and new journalistic concepts. Previously, he was a Research Fellow at the Weizenbaum Institute Berlin (2017-18) and a Postdoc in the EU-funded OrganiCity project at Aarhus University.
Education: PhD from the Graduate School for North American Studies at Freie Universität Berlin (2014), focusing on technological change in American journalism from the 19th to 20th centuries. His work critically analyzes corporate smart city visions versus European participatory approaches, emphasizing horizontal governance models in digital urban development.
Notable contributions include comparative studies on smart city paradigms and EU-funded urban innovation projects. His interdisciplinary approach bridges media studies, urban studies, and technological sociology.
