Christoph Kern is an Assistant Professor at the Joint Program in Survey Methodology (JPSM) at the University of Maryland and a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the University of Mannheim's Department of Statistics and Methodology. He also serves as Project Director at the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (MZES) and is a member of the Mannheim Center for Data Science (MCDS). He holds a PhD (Dr. rer. pol.) in Social Science from the University of Duisburg-Essen (2016).
His research focuses on fairness in machine learning, particularly examining algorithmic profiling of job seekers using German administrative data. Key projects include the 'Fairness in Automated Decision-Making' initiative, which evaluates subgroup performance, error rates, and ethical implications of predictive models.
