Christoph Gössmann is an Associated Researcher at ETH Zurich's Law, Economics, and Data Science Group. He holds a Ph.D. in Data Science and Economics (ETH Zurich), M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering (Medical Physics, ETH Zurich), and B.Sc. in Physics (Humboldt University of Berlin). He also received legal training at Duke University.
Previously, he worked at the United Nations Secretary-General's Office and the World Bank's DE JURE project. He founded ETH Zurich's SDG Monitor, a tool for tracking sustainable development goals. His research focuses on using data science and machine learning to analyze legal/political institutions and bridge research with policymaking.
Notable works include analyzing Indian judicial bias using 5M cases and studying cable news impact on vaccine uptake. He has been recognized with the ACM SIGCAS Best Paper award (2021) and a Journal Top 100 distinction (2022).
He teaches courses like Data Science for Public Policy at ETH Zurich and Imperial College London. Current roles include Director of Research at the Development Data Lab.
