Christoph Brabec

Professor Christoph Brabec is Director of the Helmholtz Institute Erlangen-Nürnberg for Renewable Energy (HI ERN), a branch of Forschungszentrum Jülich, and holds the Chair of Materials for Electronics and Energy Technology at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. His research focuses on developing novel materials and manufacturing processes for affordable, sustainable energy technologies, particularly organic and inorganic solution-processed semiconductors for photovoltaics. He leads the 'High-Throughput Methods in Photovoltaics' department, emphasizing autonomous systems for material discovery and optimization.

Brabec has been recognized as one of the world’s most highly cited researchers and was recently elected a full member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities for his contributions to energy and materials science. His work bridges academic research and industrial application, aiming to accelerate technological transfer and regional economic competitiveness.

His research interests span advanced materials engineering, renewable energy systems, and the integration of AI-driven methodologies in materials science. Brabec collaborates extensively with industry partners and contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives within the Helmholtz Association.
