Christof Schneider is a Senior Scientist leading the Thin Films and Interfaces Group at Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) and serves as a Private Lecturer at ETH Zürich's Department of Physics. His research focuses on oxide materials, thin film technologies, and quantum phenomena in correlated electron systems. He holds a habilitation from the University of Augsburg (2006) and a Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of Cambridge (1994).
Research Expertise: Schneider specializes in laser ablation, sputtering, and characterization of epitaxial heterostructures. His work spans superconductivity, multiferroics, oxide interfaces, and renewable energy materials. Key methodologies include XRD, RHEED, AFM, and plasma spectrometry.
Recent Publications: Schneider's 15 most recent articles (2019-2025) predominantly explore strain engineering in oxide thin films, magnetic phenomena in rare-earth perovskites, and plasma dynamics in pulsed laser deposition. Recurring themes include multiferroic behavior, interface physics, and advanced materials characterization.
Teaching and Leadership: At ETH Zürich, he co-developed the course Thin Films Technology - From Fundamentals to Oxide Electronics. Previously co-led the Collaborative Research Center 484 on Cooperative Phenomena in Solids at the University of Augsburg.
