Dr. Christine Sprunger is an Associate Professor at Michigan State University (MSU), based at the W.K. Kellogg Biological Station. She holds a Ph.D. in Crop and Soil Sciences from MSU and dual bachelor’s degrees from the University of Washington. Her research focuses on the intersection of agriculture and environmental sustainability, particularly soil health, nematode communities as biological indicators, and climate change impacts on agroecosystems. She teaches courses such as 'Scientific Communication and Professional Development' and 'Soil Health Concepts in Agroecology.'
Her current projects include the MSU Agricultural Climate Resiliency Program ($1,249,599) and USDA-funded research on diversified cropping systems ($749,999). She leads a lab with over 20 members, including PhD students Rachel Drobnak and Monica Jean, and postdocs Katherine Naasko and Kaitlin Gattoni.
Dr. Sprunger has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications, with recent work on soil protein as a health indicator and long-term regenerative agriculture impacts. She collaborates extensively, including with the Kellogg Biological Station Long-Term Ecological Research (KBS LTER) network.
