Christine S. Persaud

Dr. Christine S. Persaud serves as Assistant Professor and Medical Director for the Division of Sports Medicine within the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. She directs the non-operative Sports Medicine fellowship program and holds board certifications in Family Medicine with a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine, plus Diplomate status from the American Board of Obesity Medicine.

Her educational background includes an MD from Ross University Medical School (Dominica, West Indies) with clinical rotations in New York City, Family Medicine residency at Stony Brook University Medical Center where she served as Chief Resident, and non-operative Sports Medicine fellowship training at University of Rochester Medical Center.

Dr. Persaud's clinical and research focus centers on non-surgical athletic injury management, concussion protocols, musculoskeletal ultrasound diagnostics, chronic musculoskeletal conditions, and obesity medicine integration in sports care. She actively advances primary care sports medicine through clinical innovation and educational leadership.

Her scientific recognition includes:

In academic mentorship, Dr. Persaud trains Orthopaedic Surgery, Rehabilitation, and Family Medicine residents while directing fellowship education. Her clinical supervision extends to SUNY Downstate's Walk-In Injury Clinic and PSAL Brooklyn football teams.

She maintains active community engagement as team physician for Brooklyn Technical High School (her alma mater) and through clinical service in public school athletics programs.
