Research & Creative Practice
Marie’s work sits at the intersection of art, science, and metaphysics. She pioneered the reinvention of the shadow-stereoscope—an analog device that projects 40-foot real-time 3D images—describing it as an “(antiquated) Augmented Reality.” Through hybrid-media narratives she explores industrialization, feminine archetypes, and the phenomenology of light, integrating performers, objects, and cinematic effects into emotionally resonant experiences.
Scientific & Artistic Honors
- Andrew Mellon Arts and Technology Professor of Practice Grant
- Sundance Institute New Frontier Artist
- TED Fellow
Teaching & Outreach
Marie has taught shadow animation master classes at Pixar and DreamWorks, delivered guest lectures at CalArts and Stanford, and led professional-development workshops for Crystal Bridges, the Skirball Cultural Center, and Columbia Teachers College. She currently serves on the board of Nusantara Arts in Buffalo and performs with the local Balinese gamelan ensemble.
