Christine Lovering

Christine Lovering is an Honorary Lecturer in the School of Education at Edith Cowan University. She holds a Master of Education from ECU (2015), an Associate Diploma in Speech and Drama (1999), a Graduate Diploma in Modern Languages from the University of Western Australia (1999), and a Certificate in Education (1979). Her research focuses on arts integration in education, particularly in early childhood and primary settings, emphasizing drama, dance, and media arts. She explores how arts-based practices enhance social-emotional wellbeing, support inclusive education for children with disabilities, and improve teacher training. Her work includes projects funded by Healthway and Sensorium Theatre Inc, totaling over $28,000 in grants.

Key research interests include: 1) Early childhood drama and dance education, 2) Pre-service teacher preparation in arts disciplines, 3) Multisensory storytelling for children with disabilities, and 4) Digital technologies in assessment. Her recent studies highlight collaborations with arts organizations to measure the impact of creative interventions on youth well-being. She has published in journals like Journal of Applied Arts and Health and Australasian Journal of Special and Inclusive Education.

Awards include DramaWest’s Honorary Life Membership (2019) and a long-service award from the WA Department of Education (2010). Her current projects focus on developing educational resources for arts educators and evaluating the effectiveness of arts programs in fostering social-emotional development. Christine has collaborated with Sensorium Theatre Inc on inclusive arts pedagogy and led digital assessment innovation projects using iPads in performance evaluation.
