Christine Linke is a Professor at the Faculty of Design, Department of Communication Design and Media at Wismar University of Applied Sciences. Her academic specialization is in communication sciences, particularly the linguistic, theoretical, and psychological foundations of art, media, and design. She has held her current professorship since September 2021, following a period as interim professor from 2020. Her research focuses on the representation of chronic illnesses, gender-based violence, and diversity in audiovisual and digital media.
Key projects include the Chronic Diseases in Audiovisual and Digital Media (since 2019, funded by the University of Rostock’s Interdisciplinary Faculty and continued at Wismar since 2020) and Diversity in/of Audiovisual Media (funded by Wismar University since 2022). Her work employs qualitative content analysis to explore how health conditions and social categories (gender, sexuality, disability) are portrayed in media. She collaborates with institutions like the University of Rostock and UFA GmbH. Her 2022 publication analyzes chronic disease representation in film, social media, and video games, highlighting innovative and non-stigmatizing portrayals.
Linke has presented at conferences such as the DGPuk Health Communication Specialist Group (2021) and the AYArosa Symposium (2020). She supervises doctoral candidate Ruth Kasdorf and has received internal university research grants. Her office is located in Building 7a, Room 1.206.
