Dr. Christine Leopold (PhD, MSc) is an Assistant Professor of Drug Regulatory Science at the Center for Pharmaceutical Policy and Regulation / WHO Collaborating Center for Pharmaceutical Policy and Regulation of the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Clinical Pharmacy, within the Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Science at Utrecht University.
Her research focuses on increasing access to and affordability of novel therapies through cross-country comparative research. She employs a drug-life-cycle approach by assessing regulatory, health technology assessment (HTA), and pricing/funding processes, using cancer care and rare disease treatments as case examples. Her expertise spans health economics, drug regulation, pharmaceutical policy analysis, and real-world evidence applications.
Dr. Leopold coordinates all HTA-related activities of the Utrecht Pharmaceutical Policy Center and teaches courses including Access to Medicines, Pharmacoeconomics, Pharmaceutical Policy Analysis, and Drug Development and Regulation in both Utrecht University and EU2P Master programs.
Her professional activities demonstrate extensive involvement in editorial work across numerous prestigious journals including Journal of Pharmaceutical Policy and Practice, JCO Oncology Practice, and Value in Health, reflecting her significant contributions to the field of pharmaceutical policy and health economics.
Dr. Leopold has ongoing collaborations with major institutions including the European Medicine Agency (EMA), WHO Novel Medicine Platform, and the Pharmaceutical Policy Lab at the London School of Economics, highlighting her international impact in pharmaceutical policy research.
