Christine Gottlieb is an Assistant Professor of Law and Director of the Family Defense Clinic at New York University School of Law. She focuses on parental rights, family regulation, and racial justice in the child welfare system. Her work combines litigation, policy advocacy, and scholarship to combat systemic injustices affecting low-income families. Gottlieb is a co-counsel in Gould v. The City of New York, challenging unconstitutional searches by child protective services. She holds a JD from NYU (1997) and a BA in Philosophy from the University of Chicago (1994).
Her research emphasizes legal strategies to dismantle structural racism in child welfare, with publications in Harvard Law & Policy Review, Cardozo Law Review, and others. She has been recognized with NYU’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Faculty Award and a notable essay designation by The Best American Essays Series.
Gottlieb’s clinical work trains students in interdisciplinary family defense, combining legal representation with systemic advocacy.
