Christine Buzinde is a Professor and Director of the School of Community Resources and Development (CRD) at Arizona State University (ASU). She holds affiliations with the Central Arizona-Phoenix Long Term Ecological Research and is a Senior Global Futures Scientist. Her research focuses on sustainable tourism’s role in community well-being and the politics of tourism representations, exploring how tourism impacts marginalized communities and intersects with power dynamics. Buzinde’s work spans countries like Tanzania, Ecuador, Mexico, India, and Nepal, with publications in top-tier journals such as Annals of Tourism Research. She serves on the editorial board of Annals of Tourism Research and is a faculty affiliate at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s Tourism Lab.
Education: Ph.D. in Tourism Studies from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, M.A. in Tourism from the University of Waterloo (Canada), and B.A. in Tourism from Thompson Rivers University (Canada).
Research interests include community development through sustainable tourism, intergenerational well-being dynamics, and critical analyses of tourism texts as cultural repositories. Her recent work addresses climate change adaptation, indigenous community partnerships, and inclusive tourism policies in Africa and Asia.
Service roles include membership in the Annals of Tourism Research editorial board, the ASU/YSEALI Civic Engagement Fellows program, and the Grand Canyon Trust. She contributes to global initiatives like the RETHINK project on science communication and public engagement.
Labs/Teams: Active in the Tourism Lab at UIUC and collaborates with interdisciplinary groups on climate resilience and decolonial methodologies.
