Christine Armstrong Mair is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Public Health at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), with a secondary appointment in the Department of Epidemiology & Public Health at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine (UMB). She directs the Center for Health, Equity, & Aging (CHEA) and participates in the UMB-UMBC Doctoral Program in Gerontology and UMBC Master’s Program in Applied Sociology.
Her research focuses on cross-national variations in older adults' social environments, examining how family structures, social networks, and neighborhood contexts influence health outcomes and well-being. Key areas include social isolation, end-of-life experiences, and intersectional disparities in aging populations.
Recent publications highlight kinlessness, social support dynamics, and pandemic impacts across 26 countries. She explores immigrant status, racial disparities, and gendered effects on aging experiences, emphasizing policy implications for aging populations.
