Christina Vizcarra, an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Barnard College, leads research on actin regulation and its implications in cellular processes. Her work combines biochemical techniques, spectroscopy, and high-resolution microscopy to address key biological questions.
- Education: B.S. in Chemistry and Mathematics (University of Kansas), Ph.D. in Chemistry (Caltech), NIH Postdoctoral Fellowship at UCLA.
Research Interests:
- Actin cytoskeleton dynamics and its role in inherited deafness
- Development of small molecules to inhibit formin proteins
- Impact of metallothionein-3 on actin under lead exposure
- Computational approaches to protein design
