Christina L. Scott is a Professor of Social Psychology at Whittier College’s Department of Psychological Sciences. She has been a faculty member since 2010, specializing in gender studies, women’s self-concept, and sexual decision-making. Her interdisciplinary background includes a B.S. in Psychology and Theater from Occidental College, and a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Kansas State University. Recognized for her teaching excellence, she received the Harry W. Nerhood Award (2018) and participated in the Semester at Sea program (2019). In 2023, she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to teach at the University of Tokyo and Kyoritsu Women’s University in Japan.

Dr. Scott’s research explores gender dynamics, including sexual health, relationship decision-making, and survivor advocacy. Her work extends beyond academia into community education, particularly with LGBTQ+ youth and high school groups on safe sexual practices.
Her scholarly contributions include studies on sexual assault survivor aspirations, breakup distress in relationships, and cultural variations in marriage/motherhood norms. She has edited volumes on familial responses to mortality and co-authored cross-cultural research on Chinese youth sexuality.
