Christina Gummesson is an Associate Professor/Senior lecturer at Malmö University, Faculty of Odontology, Division 4, with research focused on Educational Sciences and medical education. She is actively involved in the Advancing Oral Health research profile, which aims to improve oral healthcare provision through interdisciplinary research and education.
Her research interests center on medical and dental education, with particular emphasis on widening participation in higher education, portfolio assessment methods, entrustable professional activities in medical training, and embedding environmental sustainability within healthcare curricula. Gummesson employs qualitative research methodologies, particularly meta-ethnography, to investigate educational practices and implementation strategies in healthcare education.
Her publications demonstrate a consistent focus on improving educational frameworks in dental and medical contexts, with recent work examining scaffolding structures for widening participation, portfolio use in dental education, and sustainability integration in oral health professional curricula. Her research contributes to advancing educational practices that enhance clinical competence and professional development in healthcare settings.
As part of the Advancing Oral Health research profile, Gummesson collaborates with colleagues across divisions at Malmö University's Faculty of Odontology. This research profile focuses on improving four translational dimensions of oral healthcare: oral health and general well-being through precision care, sustainable health via lifelong tooth retention, health equity through inclusive access, and eHealth implementation for cost-effective care.
