Christina Goethel is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Biology Department at St. Mary's College of Maryland. She is a benthic ecologist specializing in Arctic ecosystems and beginning work in the Chesapeake Bay. Her research examines physiological stress responses in benthic species related to changing environmental parameters like temperature across Arctic ecosystems, including the Pacific Arctic continental shelf and Icelandic fjords.
- Education: B.A. in Environmental Science and Policy (Smith College, 2013), M.S. in Marine and Estuarine Environmental Science (University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, 2016), Ph.D. in Marine and Estuarine Environmental Science (University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, 2021)
Research Focus: Conducts fieldwork aboard US/Canadian icebreakers through programs like the Distributed Biological Observatory and laboratory simulations of Arctic conditions. Uses time-series modeling to analyze population dynamics of bivalve species in marine ecosystems.
