Christin Reimer

Dr. Christin Reimer is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Bielefeld University, affiliated with both the Faculty of Engineering and the Center for Biotechnology (CeBiTec). She conducts research in the Genome Engineering and Editing Group, focusing on synthetic microbiology and biotechnology applications.

Dr. Reimer earned her PhD in Synthetic Microbiology from Friedrich Schiller University Jena (2016-2022), following a Master's degree with honors in Biotechnology from Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (2014-2016), and a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology from the same institution (2009-2014). Her academic journey included international experiences at University of California San Diego, University of Oxford, and University of South Florida.

Her research focuses on genome engineering of microorganisms, particularly amoeba-based processes for natural product synthesis. Dr. Reimer's work bridges synthetic biology, microbiology, and biotechnology to develop novel production platforms for valuable compounds including cannabinoids and polyketides. She has pioneered approaches to engineer Dictyostelium discoideum as a microbial cell factory.

Dr. Reimer's publication record reveals a dual research trajectory: advancing amoeba-based bioproduction systems while also contributing to malaria research through collaborations at institutions like Leibniz-HKI. Her recent work emphasizes scale-up of production processes and engineering platforms for natural product synthesis with pharmaceutical applications.
