Christin Lang is an Associate Professor (Privatdozentin) in the Department of Sports and Psychosocial Health at the Department of Sport, Exercise and Health, University of Basel. She completed her habilitation in October 2024, becoming one of the first two women to achieve this milestone at the DSBG (Department of Sport, Exercise and Health).
Her research focuses on the complex interactions between physical activity, sleep, and mental health in children and adolescents. A special emphasis of her work lies on the development and evaluation of interventions in school, extracurricular, and clinical contexts. Her habilitation topic explored the bidirectional relationship between physical activity and sleep: "Do we sleep better because we move, or do we move more because we sleep well? Two strategies for greater well-being."
Dr. Lang serves as both a Lecturer in the Department of Sports and Psychosocial Health and as an Assistant/PostDoc in the Department of Sports and Health Education. Her work aims to develop practical and sustainable approaches that strengthen the mental health of young people through promotion of movement and improved sleep.
Her research connects with broader studies on physical activity patterns among schoolchildren in various countries, including findings from the KaziAfya study that examined sleep and physical activity patterns among Tanzanian, South African, and Côte d'Ivoire primary schoolchildren. She is particularly interested in how physical activity interventions can be designed to improve psychosocial outcomes for children and adolescents in diverse settings.
As part of the University of Basel's academic community, Dr. Lang contributes to both teaching and research missions of the institution, with a commitment to translating research findings into practical applications that benefit children's health and well-being.
