Christin Carotta

Christin Carotta is an Associate Professor at South Dakota State University (SDSU), affiliated with the School of Education, Counseling and Human Development and the Human Development and Family Sciences Program. Her research focuses on social and emotional development, well-being, mental health, resilience, and the role of hope during adversity. She explores individual, family, and community factors influencing positive developmental outcomes.

Dr. Carotta has secured significant grant funding, including a $2.1 million grant from the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) for the South Dakota Early Childhood Mental Health Collaborative (2018–2023). This initiative addresses early childhood mental health through community partnerships.

Her work emphasizes translational research, bridging academic inquiry with practical applications in education and family support systems. She contributes to academic and community engagement efforts at SDSU, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration in human development studies.
