Dr Christie Maddock is a Senior Lecturer in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, part of the Faculty of Engineering. Her expertise spans mathematical modeling, trajectory optimization, and systems engineering for transatmospheric vehicles and space systems. She holds a PhD from the University of Glasgow (2010) and a BEng from Carleton University (2002). Her research focuses on space vehicle design, asteroid deflection via solar concentration, and sustainable space mission development. She teaches courses in engineering analysis, numerical methods, and applied mechanics.
Her research interests include multi-objective optimal control, spacecraft formation dynamics, and space systems sustainability. Recent projects address Mars cargo transportation, nuclear propulsion systems, and EU space workforce training. Collaborations include launch vehicle start-ups and institutions like Reaction Engines Ltd. She has received awards including the Royal Academy of Engineering Fellowship (2017) and the 2023 Strathclyde Medal.
Dr Maddock leads initiatives like the ASTRAIOS project aligning space curricula with industry needs. She advises on regulatory processes for satellite frequency allocations and chairs international conferences on space sustainability. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to innovation and infrastructure.
