Christiane M. Herr

Christiane M. Herr is a Professor and PhD supervisor at the School of Innovation and Creative Design, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). She directs the BEng Industrial Design program and leads the Future Ecologies Research Group, focusing on cross-disciplinary ecological design, advanced façade technologies, and digitally supported design.

Her research bridges architecture, engineering, and sustainability through computational design systems and bio-integrated technologies. Recent publications highlight her work in façade microbiomes, design cybernetics, and high-rise ecological systems.

She previously served as Associate Professor at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University and Shenzhen University, and as Visiting Assistant Professor at National Cheng Kung University. Herr is a former President of CAADRIA and Vice-Chair of the CAADFutures Foundation Board, with editorial roles at Journal of Architectural Computing and Sustainable Horizons.

Her lab, the Future Ecologies Research Group, explores systemic solutions for urban sustainability through computational design and cross-disciplinary education frameworks.
